Ouray Ice Park Guide
Climb to New Heights: Experience the Thrill of Ice Climbing at Ouray Ice Park Guide
The Ouray Ice Park is a world-renowned ice climbing destination located in the Uncompahgre Gorge just outside of Ouray, Colorado. This unique park features over 150 ice and mixed climbs, catering to climbers of all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned professionals. Whether you're a seasoned ice climber or a curious novice, the Ouray Ice Park offers an unforgettable adventure. The Ouray Ice Park was established in the mid-1990s by a group of local climbers who recognized the potential of the Uncompahgre Gorge for ice climbing. The park is artificially created by spraying water down the gorge walls, which freezes into thick, climbable ice. This innovative approach has transformed the gorge into a winter wonderland for ice climbers from around the globe. The primary activity at the Ouray Ice Park is, of course, ice climbing. Visitors can participate in guided climbs, take introductory lessons, or simply watch the experienced climbers tackle the challenging routes. The park also hosts ice climbing competitions and festivals throughout the winter season. While the Ice Park itself doesn't offer food or drink, the town of Ouray is just a short drive away and boasts a variety of restaurants and cafes. Many establishments offer hearty meals perfect for refueling after a day of climbing.
